One Year Later

Well, this is it - one. year. since I first laid down code into this project for 7DFPS2020.

As with Forgetful Loop, I felt that I should write up some thoughts, feelings, and a retrospective on how this project has turned out. Because of the nature of Itch.io's devlogs (and since a friend nudged me to trying Medium), I've posted my full document there:

I can't understate just how... proud I am. Of this thing, this art that we've all made & contributed to. With every review, and every pair of fresh eyes to the game, I get a little more excited about release day (and for the hope that it resonates with you fine folks out there).

As of typing, the development is going well - me & freya did a full 8-hour playtest and found that we have a lot to edit... but very little we want to cut. Which is extremely promising! What's left is that editing, a load of fixing (Act 2 just has the player feint and collapse rather than... end the Act), a suite of art, and plenty little touches.

As before, I won't announce an actual date until I am concrete about the build, but for now: 2022 Q1/Q2 is looking really doable as a release period!

Now, fun little secret - there isn't just the game that'll be released! I've been working with Julian K. Jarboe on a side-story PDF book to trace some story that we hint at in the videogame proper. That'll be available as a DLC book you can get from this store page, or from Steam.

Now, the release itself? Here's how it'll go down:

  • 4 weeks out: release date announced
  • 3 weeks? the Logs from Iapetus
  • 2 weeks? the OST
  • 1 week? the gameplay trailer
  • and then: it's out!

Again, I cannot understate how proud I am of this game, and I really, really hope it finds you folks that'll love it deeply, whoever you are.

Happy fixing, 'bots.
